You will need a licence in order to run a boarding kennel, home boarding or a cattery. This is to ensure that animal welfare standards and health and safety regulations are met.
An animal boarding licence from Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council it is £200.
For an animal home boarding (small)* licence from Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council is £150. (* for boarding 2 dogs or less at home)

In West Suffolk there are two licensing authorities, Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council. To apply, select the licensing authority that applies to you.

How long is my licence valid for?
A licence is valid from 1 January to the 31 December. There is no reduction in cost for licences issued part way through the year.
Does tacit authorisation apply?
Yes, you should expect a decision within 42 days of the licensing authority receiving your application.
