Town clock to fall silent for repairs to tower

The town clock at Moyse's Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds

The chimes of the historic clock in the centre of Bury St Edmunds will fall silent for the next six weeks while work takes place to the clock tower.

The Moyse’s Hall’s town clock at the front of the museum, which dates to the 1860, chimes every 15 minutes. It is now being deliberately wound down to enable repairs to the flint walls in the clock tower. Repairs to the ceiling will also be carried out.

The work at the museum, which houses the Gershom Parkington collection of clocks, is due to last up to six weeks.
