The main pool at Mildenhall Hub will close for two weeks from Sunday 24, March to 9 April for urgent repair work to be carried out on the pool liner.

However, during this time the teaching pool will remain open to reduce disruption. A schedule of bookable lane swimming, family sessions and popular activities such as Aqua will be available through usual channels. Swim Academy will continue with some changes which will be communicated directly to members. Users are asked to check the revised schedule before attending to avoid disappointment.

All organisations involved apologise to pool users for the inconvenience and thank the groups and those who have booked for their understanding.

This follows an earlier announcement last week that these works would need to be carried out after the pool liner had split and lifted in a small area.

The contractor, Wrightfield Pools, who installed the pool has acknowledged, that after initial inspection, the fault is with the welded joint and not with the liner itself, and that the rectification works will be covered under warranty. Abbeycroft and West Suffolk Council are working with Wrightfield on the issue.

To carry out the repair works the pool will need to be drained and then refilled and heated as well as the necessary checks carried out for water quality – being careful to meet environmental regulations.

In a joint statement spokespeople for Abbeycroft and West Suffolk Council, said: “We would like to apologise for any disruption caused by these works and thank people for their understanding while these repairs are carried out. We are working very closely with the contractor to make sure it is finished as soon as possible as we know how popular the pool facilities are and can’t wait to welcome everyone back for a swim.”

Mark Rose for Wrightfield Pools, said: “While there has been no danger to any pool users this is a fault that needs to be rectified. To make sure it is done quickly and to the highest of standards, our liner contractor, Aquaflex, has recommended we drain the whole pool, to enable a thorough inspection of the complete liner and not just the shallow end, where the small, affected area has occurred. Then refill, heat and chlorinate the pool, while making sure we meet environmental regulations. We hope to finish the works as soon as possible and apologise for the disruption and any inconvenience this has caused.”
