Hackney carriage vehicle licence applications
Before starting your application for a hackney carriage vehicle licence, we strongly advise you to read the West Suffolk Council Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy.
A hackney carriage vehicle licence is valid for one year and authorises licensed hackney carriage drivers to ply for hire within the boundaries of West Suffolk only. It does not entitle the driver to ply for hire or be hailed outside the district. Doing so is a serious breach of conditions and legislation. Each driver will also need a combined driver licence.
A hackney carriage can also choose to work for a private hire operator if they want to.

If you need to make changes to your vehicle licence:
- transfer of vehicle licence (change of ownership)
- licence change of details
- change of licence type (same vehicle)
- change of vehicle on existing licence
- change of registration mark on existing licence
