Changes to black or blue bin collections
Due to the new Better Recycling service starting from 1 June 2026, we have had to make some changes to our recycling and waste collection rounds. This is to make sure that we maintain an efficient and effective service and continue to provide the same collection day for your recycling, refuse and food bins.
Changed black bin collection
If your black bin has a tag on it after its last collection, as pictured below, it means that your next scheduled black bin collection date is changing as we move everything to the new service collection schedule.

To help you with managing your bins, a one-off collection for your black bin has been arranged. Please note, this is not indicated on your new collection calendar or Find my nearest.
Please put your black bin out for collection by 6am on Monday 1 June 2026. It will be emptied at some point during that week. After this, please remove the tag and recycle it in your green-lidded bin.
You should have received a detailed information pack with advice and guidance about the new service. Within the pack is a new collection calendar. This calendar provides the details of your collections for the next six months to help your transition to the new service.
From Monday 25 May, you can also check your address on Find my nearest to see when your collections will be under the new service.
Missed blue bin collection
If you have checked your calendar provided in your information pack and are skipping a blue bin collection, please start separating your waste after your last recycling collection in May between your green-lidded bin and blue bin.
You can put the following clean and dry items in your green-lidded bin:
- letters, envelopes and other paper including shredded paper
- cardboard
- newspapers, magazines and books
- cardboard egg boxes and punnets.
You can put the following clean and loose items in your blue bin:
- glass bottles and jars
- foil trays and drinks cans
- cartons (including Tetra Pak)
- plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
- carrier bags
- bubble wrap
- empty food bags, such as cereal, pasta, mixed salad, frozen chips and frozen peas
- tin foil.
You can also take additional household waste to a household recycling centre, as well as lots of other items which you can’t recycle at home. You can find out more at Suffolk Recycles - Recycling centres
The glass recycling banks are also available for bottles and jars, you can find your nearest one at Suffolk Recycles - Recycling bring banks
If you cannot manage your blue bin waste until your next collection is due, we offer the option to purchase extra recycling sacks. You can request them here: Damaged or missing bins and extra recycling sacks
Remember to squash and flatten things like boxes or plastic bottles to fit more in the bin.
