The Chair and Vice-Chair were appointed at the first meeting of the Shadow Council on 30 May 2018 and will hold office until immediately after the election of a Chair and Vice Chair at the Annual Meeting of the West Suffolk Council on 22 May 2019.
The Chair (or in their absence, the Vice-Chair) chairs meetings of the Shadow Council in accordance with the Shadow Constitution, so that its business can be carried out efficiently and with regard to the rights of councillors and the interests of the community.
The Chair of the Shadow Council will not undertake a civic and ceremonial role.
The Council has agreed that the last Chair of Forest Heath District Council Councillor Brian Harvey and the last Mayor St Edmundsbury Borough Council Councillor Margaret Marks shall act as civic representatives up to the Annual General Meeting on 22 May 2019, when the first Chair will be appointed to the West Suffolk Council. This role is discharged by the Chair of Forest Heath District Council and the Mayor of St Edmundsbury Borough Council across the West Suffolk area.
Freedoms and Aldermen
Any Freedoms and Aldermen status granted by Forest Heath District Council or St Edmundsbury Borough Council will be transferred to the West Suffolk Council on 1 April 2019. Forest Heath awarded Freedom of the District to Nigel Roman on 20 March 2019.
