Taxi and MOT testing
To support NHS Test and Trace, we are asking you to provide the following information when making an appointment:
NHS Test and Trace will ask for these records only where it is necessary, either because someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 has listed our services or premises as a place they visited recently, or because our premises have been identified as the location of a potential local outbreak of COVID-19.
For more information, visit GOV.UK - NHS test and trace: how it works
To secure a booking, we also require:
Your car, van or motorcycle’s MOT expiry date will be extended by six months if it’s due on or after 30 March 2020, but you must keep your vehicle safe to drive. More details can be found on GOV.UK - Coronavirus: MOTs due from 30 March 2020
If your vehicle is three years old or more, you are required by law to have an annual MOT. If you’re driving a vehicle without a current MOT, you can’t renew your road tax, your insurance will be invalid and you could get a fine.
We offer MOT testing in our own facility, with hourly appointments to suit you. The test can take up to an hour to complete, and you are welcome to wait in the viewing area where you can watch your MOT taking place. Tests are available 7am to 3pm, Monday to Thursday, and currently cost £40.
Our team are experts at ensuring your vehicle is inspected to the highest standard, with as little fuss as possible.
If, unfortunately, your vehicle fails the test, a member of the team will explain fully the reasons behind the failure and show you on your vehicle if you request. We will also explain any advisory items, which could affect your vehicle in the future, so that you are aware of them.
How to book an MOT with us
You can book your test over the phone, or by email, for a time that suits you. Tests can be booked up to a month before your current MOT is due to expire.
A new gov.uk service is available which allows you to sign up for annual email reminders when your vehicle’s MOT is due for renewal. Go to MOT Reminders to start. Simply type in your vehicle registration number and your preferred email address. You will be sent a reminder email a month before your MOT is due.
Pre MOT checks
Most MOT test failures are caused by issues that are easy to fix, like windscreen wipers and light bulbs. You can help ensure your car’s MOT goes smoothly by doing a few easy pre-test useful checks:
- lights - check all lights and indicators are working
- number plate - check it's not damaged and is attached properly
- oil - check the oil level is above minimum
- tyres - check tread depth and general wear, especially the side walls of the tyres for bulges and cracks
- tyres - check the tyre pressure
- windscreen wipers - check they work properly and are not worn out
- windscreen wash - check and top up the washer bottle
- windscreen - ensure any chips and cracks are repaired before the test.
After your MOT
Although your car has passed its MOT, that does not guarantee it is safe and legal for the next 12 months. It is just confirmation that, on the day and time of the test, it was. You still need to regularly check that your vehicle is roadworthy.
