Bury St Edmunds vehicle depot MOT and Text tests
We have moved to West Suffolk Operational Hub, Bury Road, Fornham St Martin, Bury St Edmunds, IP31 1FE.
If your vehicle is three years old or more, you are required by law to have an annual MOT. If you’re driving a vehicle without a current MOT, you can’t renew your road tax, your insurance will be invalid and you could get a fine
We offer MOT testing in our own facility, with hourly appointments to suit you. The test can take up to an hour to complete, and you are welcome to wait in the viewing area where you can watch your MOT taking place. Tests are available 7am—3pm, Monday to Friday and currently cost £45.
Our team are experts at ensuring your vehicle is inspected to the highest standard, with as little fuss as possible.
If, unfortunately, your vehicle fails it test, a member of the team will explain fully the reasons behind the failure and show you on your vehicle if you request. We will also explain any advisory items, which could affect your vehicle in the future so that you are aware of them.
How to book an MOT with us
You can book your test over the phone, or by email, for a time that suits you. Tests can be booked up to a month before your current MOT is due to expire.
A new gov.uk service is available which allows you to sign up for annual email reminders when your vehicle’s MOT is due for renewal. Go to the following link to start. MOT Reminders. Simply type in your vehicle registration number and your preferred email address. You will be sent a reminder email a month before your MOT is due.
Pre MOT checks
Most MOT test failures are caused by issues that are easy to fix, like windscreen wipers and light bulbs. You can help ensure your car’s MOT goes smoothly by doing a few easy pre test useful checks:
- lights—check all lights and indicators are working
- number plate—check its not damaged and attached properly
- oil—check the oil lever is above minimum
- tyres—check tread depth and general wear, especially the side walls of the tyre for bulges and cracks
- tyres—check the tyre pressure
- windscreen wipers—check they work properly and are not worn out
- windscreen wash—check and top up the washer bottle
- windscreen—ensure any chips/cracks are repaired before the test
After your MOT
Although your car has passed its MOT, that does not guarantee it is safe and legal for the next 12 months. It is just confirmation that on the day and time of the test, it was. You still need to regularly check that your vehicle is roadworthy.
