Training for Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licence holders - driver consultation

Audience: Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licence holders and customers

This consultation is now closed.

It was open from 15 July 2016 to 31 August 2016.

West Suffolk councils are consulting on introducing a BTEC level 2 qualification for all our present and future drivers. This course would include the following in relation to taxis and private hire vehicles: Health and safety, road safety, customer service, vehicle maintenance and safety, regulatory framework, disability awareness and assistance, fares, carrying of luggage and transporting of children and vulnerable people. The qualification would take approximately 18 hours to complete. It would be City & Guilds approved and held at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds with the potential of other locations being introduced at a later date.

Many other councils require taxi or private hire driver applicants to complete a skills based test or to have a recognised qualification before being issued a licence.

Please take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire by Wednesday 31 August:
