Business rates

Business rates (National Non-Domestic Rates) are collected by councils from most properties that are not occupied by domestic households, for example shops, offices and factories. The level of business rates is decided by the government.

A proportion of the amount collected is retained by the council. The rest is pooled by the government and redistributed to councils as part of the annual grant settlement. Business rates make a significant contribution to the funds that the councils need to pay for local services like rubbish collection and planning.

Business rates for West Suffolk are managed by Anglia Revenues Partnership (ARP) on behalf of West Suffolk Council.
