Final plans for the layout of new facilities have been agreed ahead of work due to begin shortly on the £1.5m investment in Haverhill Leisure Centre.

Feedback from consultation with users, which formed the first stage of the project, has seen a reconfiguration of the sports hall to accommodate two courts on the ground floor at no additional cost or impact on revenue.

Cllr Jo Rayner, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture said,
“Testing the design with users gave us valuable feedback and I am very pleased that we have been able to listen to those views and make some changes to the initial designs. Alongside the fantastic new Parkour facilities we have been able to accommodate the Walking Football and Walking Netball groups that previously would have been displaced to outside facilities; Badminton and Basketball; and Short Tennis who would have otherwise been located on two floors. Other changes will still go ahead but this engagement has been really positive for the project, and I hope for, current and future users.’

Changes which will still go ahead include replacing the sauna and steam room with a wellness suite, and improving access to more sporting facilities with community use agreements at Samuel Ward and Castle Manor schools.
