Newmarket Charitable Foundation is receiving funding to support their project to bring a hot desking space to Newmarket High Street.

The project received £9,532 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.

The hot desk space will aim to provide opportunities for fostering innovation and business growth, plus support entrepreneurs in the area. The unit will provide a location where individuals can access advice on business and skills development and will have a strong focus on employability.

Working in partnership with Menta, the space will facilitate the delivery of mentoring via local businesspeople and promote informal co-working between individuals, businesses, and sectors.

The inclusive and professional space will be a mix of open plan and meeting areas/offices. There will be opportunities for training to be delivered as well as 1:1 meeting space. Users will have access to desks and storage space, along with a kitchen and eating area.

It is anticipated that work on the unit could begin at the end of March and open in the Summer of 2023.

Cllr Susan Glossop, Cabinet Member for Growth, West Suffolk Council, said: ‘This is a great initiative to promote networking and collaboration in Newmarket. By working with Newmarket Charitable Foundation and Menta, we can deliver easily accessible skills training and employability advice to local people, plus support local entrepreneurs and businesses to stimulate innovation and growth in the area.’

Dr David Hall, Executive Director of the Newmarket Charitable Foundation, said: “the support from West Suffolk Council through an allocation of UKSPF funding is hugely appreciated, allowing us to do something new on the High Street, encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs right at the heart of the town.  High Streets across the land are struggling, and we are delighted to bring an innovative approach to addressing vacant retail units whilst simultaneously supporting innovation!”
