Students in Years 9 and 10 at Sybil Andrews Academy explored future career possibilities at their Careers Fair on Tuesday 5 March 2024.

The Careers Fair offered students the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of industries such as Thurston Community College, the Police and West Suffolk College, whilst connecting with potential employers and gaining valuable insights into the ever-evolving job market.

Representing West Suffolk Council was Jess, an Environmental Management Officer. Jess works on promoting energy efficiency grants and schemes to residents and businesses to help reduce bills and improve energy efficiency in properties.

Jess spoke to students about her role within the council, the qualifications needed and the learning opportunities available for students such as work experience, internships and apprenticeships.

She also told pupils of the environmental projects that West Suffolk Council undertake to reduce and manage the environmental impact of carbon emissions, including solar for businesses, electric charging vehicles, decarbonising measures in buildings and maintaining and increasing the number of green flag accredited sites.

Alexandra Dias, Careers Advisor at Sybil Andrews Academy, said: “The students at Sybil Andrews Academy are interested in environmental issues and solutions, so the projects to create change that West Suffolk Council initiate and take part in, the students connect with.

“Jess is a great ambassador for the local authority and the students positively engage with her and feel confident to ask questions and seek information about the ongoing projects and opportunities.

“At our most recent careers event, our students were given a task to complete, and I am happy to share that both Jess and climate change were the most common thread amongst the students. On behalf of our students, teachers, governing body and careers team, we thank West Suffolk Council for their incredibly valuable and relevant contribution.”
