Good news for drivers coming to Haverhill for Christmas shopping, who can park for free after 3pm on the nine days leading up to Christmas in car parks run by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The offer runs from Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 December and includes both weekends in the run-up to the big day.

St Edmundsbury Cabinet member for Growth, Cllr Alaric Pugh said,

“Haverhill has much to offer the Christmas shopper in terms of variety, good value and convenience. The borough council has made growth a priority, and a vital part of that is a thriving high street. This offer gives another reason to use the town’s many independent businesses and to enjoy an atmosphere unavailable on-line. I hope to see our shops and cafes well supported in the run-up to Christmas.’

Paul Donno, Chair of the Haverhill and District Chamber of Commerce said,

“This welcome seasonal offer will make it easier for busy people to use the High Street and I hope, that people in our town will support the retailers during and after the festive season. The town centre has a great offer and we fully support the good partnership with St Edmundsbury in encouraging shoppers to buy local.”

Cllr Peter Stevens, St Edmundsbury Cabinet member for Operations said,

"The free after 3pm car parking applies to all six town centre car parks, which give good access to the High Street. I hope customers will enjoy using the time to shop, meet up and celebrate the season.”

The car parks the offer applies to are:

  • Lower Down Slade
  • Corn Exchange
  • Ehringshausen Way
  • Leisure Centre
  • Meadows
  • Town Hall
