Registration of cooling towers and evaporative condensers

All non-domestic buildings with cooling towers and evaporative condensers have to be registered with the relevant council. This is a requirement of the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.

The reason for registration relates to the control of infectious diseases such as Legionnaires' disease.

Councils are required to maintain a register of cooling towers and evaporative condensers within their area. View West Suffolk Council's Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Register

The council must be notified in writing of any changes to the notification information. This must be done:

  • within one month of the change, or
  • as soon as possible if the cooling tower or evaporative condenser cease operation or are removed.

For exemptions and to register, visit: GOV.UK - Notification of cooling towers and evaporative condensers from West Suffolk Council
