Borough of St Edmundsbury (off-street parking places Order 2010)

(Variation) Order 2017

The council of the Borough of St Edmundsbury, in exercise of its powers under 32, 33, 35 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (hereinafter referred to as the 'the Act of 1984'), and all other enabling powers, after consultation with the Highway Authority, Suffolk County Council, in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act of 1984, hereby makes the following Variation Order:

  1. In this Order the expression 'the 2010 Order' means the Borough of St Edmundsbury (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2010.
  2. The following definition to be added to Article 1. (1) of the 2010 order: 'EV/PHEV allocated bays' means a bay for use only by electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that have purchased a power charge from the Electric charging point provider.
  3. This order may be cited as the Borough of St Edmundsbury (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 2010 (Variation) Order 2017 and shall come into effect on 27 March 2017.

Statement of reasons

The council is investing in additional electric car charging points in bays for the permitted use of only electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that have purchased a power charge from the electric charging point. Users of the charging points will be expected to pay for the power charge service (as set by the provider) but no charge will be payable for parking in permitted bay. Normal manner in which a vehicle shall be parked will apply.
