Improvement work to be carried out at town park
30 Jan 2025

Work to make a park in Mildenhall more accessible, enjoyable and secure is to take place over the coming weeks.
Half Moon Park is to see improvements to its entrance, paths, grass areas, benches and bins as part of work designed to broaden its appeal.
The park, which sits between Bury Road and Thetford Road on the East of the town, will remain open throughout the work scheduled for two months, although there will be some disruption.
The improvements to the two-acre site begin on Monday and are being paid for with £37,000 from the Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund.
Cllr Ian Shipp, Cabinet Member for Leisure at West Suffolk Council who also represents the Mildenhall Kingsway and Market ward of the town, said: “This is a significant area of green space that we are looking to make more accessible, enjoyable and secure for local residents to visit.”
“Our parks and open spaces across West Suffolk help support our resident’s physical and mental health whether as a place to play, to run, to go for a walk and recharge or enjoy a summertime picnic. They are also home to an array of wildlife both fora and fauna.”
“Half Moon Park is a green area that is perhaps underutilised, but it is my view that we can make it better for residents of all ages and encourage greater use – and step one is the work that we will be undertaking over the coming weeks.”
“There will be some inevitable disruption while this take place, but the park will remain open, and I ask local residents to bear with us while we make these improvements and get the work done.”
