Suffolk County Council elections 2026

Suffolk County Council elections will be held on Thursday 7 May 2026.
West Suffolk Council will be administering the election for the 15 county divisions in the West Suffolk area on behalf of Suffolk County Council.
The list of candidates will be published on Friday 10 April 2026 at: Voting and elections (westsuffolk.gov.uk)
The election count will take place on Friday 8 May 2026 and the results will be published on the County Council’s website, and via the council’s social media. The results will also be available on the West Suffolk Council website.
The elections to Suffolk County Council will be combined with a by-election for a vacant seat on West Suffolk Council for the Abbeygate Ward and neighbourhood plan referendums for West Row and Withersfield.
Register to vote
Electors do not need to register to vote before every election, however if they have not registered before or have changed their name, address or nationality, they will need to register to vote.
The deadline to register to vote for the upcoming Suffolk County Council election is Monday 20 April 2026. To register to vote, visit: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Ways to Vote
There are three ways electors can cast their vote: at a polling station in person, by post or by proxy. More information about ways to vote and online application forms for postal and proxy voting, is available online at: www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voter.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026 and the deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
Voter ID
Electors that are voting at polling stations will need to show photographic identification documents (ID). Those that do not have eligible ID can apply for free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) and the deadline to apply is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
