New location for safe disposal of sharps boxes in Haverhill
17 Apr 2026
People in and around Haverhill will be able to safely dispose of their closed sharps boxes at the new Stourview Wellbeing Centre from Monday (20 April).
West Suffolk Council, as the waste collection authority, is responsible for organising the collection of medical needles (also known as sharps) from residents who self-administer.
It set up and funds a pharmacy network as a place people can safely dispose of their sharps boxes, but the Haverhill Pharmacy withdrew from this from 1 April leaving nowhere in the town that collects sharps.
Now West Suffolk Council has worked with Haverhill Town Council to set up a new sharps box collection point at the Stourview Wellbeing Centre.
Colin Poole, Haverhill Town Clerk, said: “We are delighted to have worked with West Suffolk Council to quickly reestablish this service in its new home at the Stourview Wellbeing Centre, in the centre of town.”
The official opening of the Wellbeing Centre is on Friday 15 May, with an open day as part of the Haverhill Food Festival on Saturday 16 May, but some services have already begun. More information can be found on the Stourview Wellbeing Centre’s Facebook page.
The wellbeing centre is in Crown Passage, Haverhill in the old Stourview Medical Centre building. Only properly closed sharps boxes will be accepted, no loose needles or open/overfilled boxes are accepted.
Its opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. From 16 May it will also offer Saturday opening hours from 9:30am to 2:30pm.
