More than 1,300 Suffolk households register interest in heat pump scheme as deadline approaches

Households across Suffolk have already registered their interest in the new Switch Together Heat Pumps scheme ahead of the registration deadline on 16 October 2026.

The council-backed scheme, delivered through a partnership between Suffolk's public sector organisations and Switch Together, helps homeowners explore whether an air source heat pump could be right for their home. Residents who register receive a free, personalised, no-obligation installation offer, tailored to their property.

The strong response since registrations opened reflects growing interest in low-carbon heating and the opportunity to access government support. Eligible households can also benefit from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which currently offers grants of £7,500 for homes heated by gas or electricity and £9,000 for homes heated by oil or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), helping to significantly reduce installation costs.

Switch Together works by bringing residents together through a group-buying approach, allowing trusted installers to compete for business and offer competitive pricing. All installations are carried out by Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited installers, giving residents confidence throughout the process.

Air source heat pumps are a more efficient alternative to traditional heating systems, using heat from the outside air to warm homes and provide hot water. They can be suitable replacements for ageing gas, oil, LPG and inefficient electric heating systems, while helping households reduce their carbon emissions.

Councillor Gerald Kelly, Chair of the Suffolk Councils' Environment Portfolio Holders' Group, said: "It's fantastic to see more than 1,300 Suffolk households already taking the first step to explore whether a heat pump could work for their home. The level of interest demonstrates that residents are keen to find cleaner, more efficient ways to heat their properties and take advantage of the support currently available.

"With registration free and completely without obligation, I'd encourage anyone considering replacing an ageing heating system to sign up before 16 October. Even if you're only beginning to explore your options, you'll receive a personalised proposal and a clearer understanding of what a heat pump could mean for your home."

Residents who register before the deadline will receive their personalised offer after installers have competed to provide the best available price. There is no obligation to proceed with an installation.
