Keep the Heat - Thermal Imaging Cameras

The Keep the Heat scheme is returning to Suffolk this November, helping households to stay warm and reduce energy costs.

The scheme uses thermal imaging cameras to help residents detect heat loss for free around windows, doors and walls in their homes, before they become costly problems.

Residents can hire the cameras through West Suffolk Council from November 2026 to March 2026. Participants in the scheme are also offered the opportunity to speak with a Healthy Homes Advisor about government initiatives, grants and other support available to help with home insulation and renewable energy improvements.

The return of the scheme follows positive results from previous years, with the council supporting 84 households across West Suffolk in identifying areas where heat was being lost from their homes from January to March 2026.

Cllr Gerald Kelly, Cabinet Member for Environment and Regulatory at West Suffolk Council and Chair of the Suffolk Councils’ Environment Portfolio Holders’ Group, said: “Bringing the Keep the Heat scheme back in November will give more households the opportunity to identify heat loss in their homes.

“Through the scheme, residents can find out about practical support and grants available that could help them make improvements, reduce their energy bills, improve comfort, decrease the need for emergency repairs and lower the carbon footprint of their homes.”

Local West Suffolk resident, Bradley, said: “The support I received through the scheme has made a real difference in my home. It is much warmer and comfortable, and I am less worried about my energy bills. I would encourage all residents to use the cameras to check for heat loss points, as well as discuss possible grants and other schemes that can help you save money and help the environment.”

Funded by Sustainable Suffolk, the Keep the Heat scheme remains committed to tackling fuel poverty while promoting long-term, sustainable solutions for households.

The scheme continues to work closely with local partners and community organisations to expand its reach and ensure as many people as possible can benefit from the support available.

Residents who would like to book out their own thermal imaging camera can do so by completing the following form: West Suffolk Council booking form - Keep The Heat 2026-2027

This offer is just one part of the wider Keep the Heat scheme in which community groups can carry out free thermal imaging in their neighbourhoods. Any Suffolk resident with a library card can borrow a thermal camera from their local library: Suffolk Community Libraries - Borrow a Thermal Imaging Camera.

Residents interested in learning more about the scheme or checking their eligibility for grants are encouraged to visit Sustainable Suffolk - Home or contact environment@westsuffolk.gov.uk.
