Parking and travel

Find out about council run car parks in the area and how to buy car park season tickets and street parking permits. You can also pay a parking fine through our pay page. If you want to appeal a parking fine, find out about what you can appeal against in the Parking fines and appeals section. We have also provided links about where to go for information about roads, cycle paths, buses and public rights of way. These sections also tell you how to report any concerns such as potholes and faulty street lights to Suffolk County Council.

Important information in relation to known car parking scams

The British Parking Association has made us aware of a card scam that has taken place in other parts of the country. Fake card skimmers are stuck on the top of real card readers on pay and display machines, this then accesses people's bank accounts when they tap to pay.

While we will be checking our parking machines regularly, we are also asking users of our car parks to be vigilant.

All of our car parks apart from St Andrews Flexi-stay in Bury St Edmunds allow people to pay with coins. You can also pay by RingGo in our car parks although please be aware that the app does apply a 20p convenience fee plus a further 20p for reminders for when your parking is about to run out (this can be turned off in your RingGo account settings).

If you are paying by card, before you pay:

  • check the card reader for anything unusual
  • if you see a ‘card declined’ message, take note - it could be a signal issue
  • watch for alerts from your bank - they can help protect your account
  • report anything suspicious by calling the police on 101.

There is also a text message scam in place across the country, more information can be found on our news item: Don’t fall for text message parking fine scam
