You can hire a manual or electric wheelchair or scooter if you have any mobility problems. You do not have to be registered as disabled to use the scheme.

Shopmobility in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill

In Bury St Edmunds the scheme operates from The Apex and the Library. In Haverhill the scheme operates from the council office in Lower Downs Slade and is managed by Three Counties Transport.


Shopmobility is charged in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill, you can buy membership for a year or you can pay as you go:

  • annual membership is £5 plus an additional £1.50 fee each time you use Shopmobility
  • pay as you go is £3.50 each time you use the service

To use the service you will need to register once. You will need two pieces of identification, one of them must have your address on it. If you are using the service but are not registered as disabled then you will pay VAT on top of these charges.

The service is free in Newmarket and operates from Newmarket library at the Guineas shopping centre.


You will need to bring a form of identification with you so you can register. You can book in advance by calling Newmarket Library on 01638 661216 or you can see what is available on the day.
