Charitable collections licence
|With immediate effect the licensing team will no longer be meeting with customers. All communication will need to be done via telephone or email. All licensing applications that are unable to be completed online must be submitted electronically to email@example.com. For more details visit: COVID-19 Licensing update|
If you want to organise a charitable collection you will need to get the correct licence from the licensing authority. You will need to apply to the local authority that covers the area where you want to collect. If you do not know who that is, visit GOV.UK - Find your local council
There are two types of licences available:
House to house collection licence
You will need this if you intend to approach people at their homes. You will need to apply four weeks before the proposed collection date. There is no charge for this licence.
When a licence has been issued we will supply you with an order form for The Stationary Office. You will have to order 'certificates of authority' and official collection badges which all your collectors must have. There are charges for these which will be on the order form.
Once you have completed your collection you will need to submit a return within one month to the licensing authority.
Street collection licence
You will need this if you want to approach people on the street. You will need to apply for this at least ten working days before the proposed collection date. There is no charge for this licence.
Once you have completed your collection you will need to file a return to the licensing authority. The return needs to be signed by an accountant and detail any expenses. You will need to submit a return within one month of the collection.
