On Tuesday 3 July 2024, around 240 students from various Suffolk high schools attended the Youth Climate Conference, held at Suffolk One in Ipswich. Jess, the Healthy Homes Advisor at West Suffolk Council, and Phillip, an intern in the Energy and Environment team, held their own stall for the pupils to visit and learn about Warm Homes Healthy People.

Jess and Phillip engaged with students to show what Suffolk is doing to help reduce carbon emissions with domestic homes, such as energy grants, free energy surveys and more. Warm Homes Heathy People is an initiative to help the country towards its target of net zero by 2030. Students were eager to learn about the renewable technology that can be installed on homes to make them more efficient, with several interested in starting a career in the environmental sector.

Suffolk Climate Change Partnership said: “The day is for environmentally minded students to join in discussions, workshops and networking. The children learnt about all things climate change and tackling the climate emergency, and last year’s students came away buzzing with the new ideas and connections they had made!”

The event, organised by the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about coastal adaptation, plastic pollution, flood and water management, electric vehicles, sustainable fashion and climate anxiety.
