West Suffolk Council announces availability of remaining Decarbonisation Initiatives Fund for community groups
16 Aug 2024
Remaining money from the West Suffolk Decarbonisation Initiatives Fund is now available to support community groups focused on local carbon reduction and environmental sustainability initiatives. This allocation comes as part of West Suffolk Council’s ongoing commitment to reducing climate change.
Cabinet agreed that the second round of funding, likely to exceed £200,000 in total, would be used as part-funding for capital projects to decarbonise other community assets. Examples of such projects include converting floodlights on sports fields to LED, community transport schemes requiring capital investment to reduce the number of private car journeys or solar and battery arrangements for community halls.
Cllr Gerald Kelly, Cabinet Member responsible for environment, said: “We are thrilled to extend the impact of our Decarbonisation Initiative Fund by supporting the vital work being done by community groups. These organisations play a critical role in the fight against climate change, driving innovation and inspiring change from the ground up. By providing them with some of the financial support they need to get their environmental projects started, we hope to amplify their efforts and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.”
If you have an idea you would like to be considered for funding, please contact your local West Suffolk councillor before Friday 6 September for an initial conversation, as they will be managing the expressions of interest submitted for their wards.
