Planting pride: Anglia in Bloom results announced

West Suffolk towns Brandon and Bury St Edmunds were amongst the winners of the Anglia in Bloom competition, celebrating the best floral and environmental displays as part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign.

Anglia in Bloom covers the six eastern counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. The winners of the competition received their awards on Thursday 4 September 2024 at Burgess Hall in St Ives.

Brandon won the gold award in the town category and Bury St Edmunds earned the gold award in the large town category.

The Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds also won the gold award in the historic parks and gardens category. The wildflower Labyrinth, also within the Abbey Gardens, received the accolade of ‘Best Gardening for Wildlife’ award.

Cllr Ian Shipp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Anglia in Bloom is a powerful example of how actions can create lasting change. It’s not just about planting flowers – it’s a testament to the dedication and creativity of communities across the six counties. The efforts of each person involved helps to contribute to thriving communities in West Suffolk and fosters pride in our local areas. All those involved in the success of our towns in the competition should feel extremely proud of their hard work. A huge thank you goes to our staff and volunteers at the Abbey Gardens, as well as those involved in Bury and Brandon in Bloom.”

The competition aims to enhance our environment by creatively incorporating trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscaping. It also focuses on promoting a clean, litter-free, and sustainable environment.
