Deadline approaching for West Suffolk’s Go For It grants

Community groups with a bright idea to help their local area, only have a few week’s left to apply for West Suffolk Council’s Go For It grants.

The grants offer up to £300 in seed funding to help set up new groups or to allow existing groups to do something experimental and new delivering ideas and activities to benefit their communities.

The scheme will back ideas that will bring residents together, inspire people to get more active, increase participation, support health and wellbeing or respond to local needs through innovation and activities.

The money can be used to pay towards start-up costs such as equipment, venue hire, promotional materials, transport and more.

Since it launched last summer, the scheme has backed 24 projects across West Suffolk.

But the Go For It grant scheme it will close to applications at 9am on 21 September 2026.

The grant scheme is backed using £10,000 of funds allocated to the council from Central Government from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Cllr Donna Higgins, Cabinet Member for Families and Communities at West Suffolk Council, said: “Our ambition for a thriving West Suffolk starts with our communities. 
There are people and groups of individuals of all ages with ideas about what their community needs to make it a better, welcoming and inclusive place for all those who live there.”

“We are looking to invest in community-based initiatives that will bring residents together, reduce loneliness and isolation and deepen people’s sense of belonging to their community.”

“We are looking to back local projects to help to get people more active, benefitting their physical and mental health.”

“Through this we are also continuing to deliver on our strategic priority for Thriving Communities, collaborating to improve access to community services and support for our residents wherever we can.”
