Residents across West Suffolk have benefitted from energy efficiency improvements through the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG) scheme, to create warmer homes, lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.

Within Suffolk, 156 homes have been supported by the scheme with a total of £3.19 million invested in energy efficiency and heating improvements.

From April 2025 to August 2026, the following measures were installed across Suffolk:

  • 122 homes received solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery systems
  • 47 homes received an air source heat pump

The WHLG scheme, now closed to applications, was available to eligible households, with support based on factors such as a household income of £36,000 or less, and an Energy Performance Certificate rated D or below.

The scheme was funded by from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and is managed by Suffolk County Council on behalf of all councils in Suffolk.

Within Suffolk, 156 properties were supported in the scheme with a total of £3.19 million invested in energy efficiency improvements so far.

Of homes which received funding so far, 78 per cent of properties that were marked previously as D have improved to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A to C. An EPC shows how energy efficient a property is, with a high rating meaning the property is generally more energy efficient and can have cheaper energy bills. Residents can find out their home’s EPC rating here: GOV.UK - Find an energy certificate

Residents have provided positive feedback on reduced energy consumption, lower utility costs and improved comfort during colder weather.

Cllr Gerald Kelly, Cabinet Member for Environment and Regulatory at West Suffolk Council, said: “Through the Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme, residents across Suffolk have been able to benefit from energy efficiency improvements that will help reduce energy bills, improve comfort and support our strategic priorities.

“This scheme contributes to environmental resilience and sustainable growth by reducing carbon emissions and helping create warmer, more energy-efficient homes that are better equipped to withstand rising energy costs, reduce fuel poverty and adapt to the changes posed by a changing climate. It is great to see how the grant scheme is making a real difference to local households while also helping us work towards our net zero goals.”

A local West Suffolk resident who received loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery from the scheme said: “I’m very happy with the completed works. All of the trades people were friendly and completed the work in a professional manner. They were respectful of the property and tidied up after the work was completed. The communication was excellent and I was kept informed throughout the process. I am very satisfied with the end result and the house is a lot warmer!”

Warm Homes Local Grant is currently closed to new applications following a successful campaign. Updates on the scheme can be found here: Warm Homes Suffolk - Home.
