All potential parking providers in West Suffolk are being encouraged to apply for free Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points for publicly accessible car parking, under the Plug In Suffolk Scheme, open now.

With nearly a million EV’s now on our roads and the numbers rising fast, this is an opportunity for community organisations like village halls, parish councils and churches to receive a valuable revenue stream by offering a charge point, provided free of charge and supported for seven years.

Cllr Gerald Kelly, Cabinet member for Regulatory, Governance and Environment said,

‘Plug in Suffolk is improving EV charging infrastructure particularly for residents without off street parking. Phase one of the scheme was a great success, and we now inviting expressions of interest for phase two.

‘The fully funded and supported points are very simple to use. Just arrive at a charger, plug in and use your contactless payment to cover the low cost of the electricity you use. Once payment is accepted, charging will begin. No need to register with a particular network.  No need to download a smartphone app.  No specific access card required. Just your own contactless payment.

‘I highly recommend any organisation providing publicly accessible parking submits an expression of interest form.’
