Street lighting

Most street lights are owned and managed by Suffolk County Council (SCC).  These can be identified by the plastic plate attached to the lamp post which includes a reference number and SCC contact details for reporting any defects.

Visit Suffolk County Council - Street lighting to:

  • check lights owned by Suffolk County Council
  • find information needed to submit a defect report
  • report a street light defect.

Street lighting on new housing developments is usually the responsibility of the developer or housing association, you will need to contact them directly with any concerns.

Other street lights in the West Suffolk area are managed by a number of organisations such as West Suffolk Council, parish or town councils and housing associations. To enquire about one of these lights please email customer.services@westsuffolk.gov.uk including:

  • reference number shown on the lamp post, which is normally a painted number or on a plastic plate
  • type of fault for example 'not working' or 'damaged' with a short description where applicable
  • full details of location - either the road and village or town name together with the nearest property, landmark or What3words unique three word code.
