Legal and procedural advice

Parish and town councils are entirely seperate from West Suffolk Council. West Suffolk Council has no general oversight of them and can only consider complaints that individual parish or town councillors have breached the Code of Conduct - we cannot consider more general complaints against parish/town councils and the decisions they make. We also cannot advise members of the public, parish or town councils on legal or procedural matters - these should be directed to the parish or town council itself.  There is no ombudsman service for parish and town councils.

Many parish and town councils are members of the Suffolk Association of Local Councils which provides advisory services to parish and town councils throughout the county.  Further information can be found at Suffolk Association of Local Councils
