When are my bins emptied?

Coronavirus iconDuring the current COVID-19 outbreak, we're working as hard as we can to continue to collect your waste. Please help us by remembering not to overfill your bins so they can be moved by the crews, and by not leaving side waste. Please continue to store this until your next collection.

You can now subscribe for the Garden Waste collection service. For more information or to subscribe, visit our Garden Waste Collection page.

Your bins are emptied on alternate weeks. When there is a public holiday, the collection days will be revised. To see when your bins are emptied, visit Find my nearest, enter your postcode into the Search for a location box and select your address. Your bin collection information will be in the Waste and recycling section.

Christmas and New Year bin collections 2021-22

Our Postcode lookup is up to date with any Christmas collection changes, or you can download the Christmas bin collections leaflet

In the interests of COVID-19 safety we are not asking the crews to put leaflets under bin lids, which involves removing PPE (personal protective equipment).

Please remember not to put glass in your blue or black bins, but recycle it at a local bottle bank. You can check where your nearest bottle bank is using Find my nearest.

Don't forget, the household waste recycling centres are open on the bank holidays (Monday 27 December, Tuesday 28 December and Monday 3 January) from 9am - 4pm so additional waste can be taken to one of those if necessary.  You must book a time slot online to take any waste to your local recycling centre. Please do not go to a recycling centre without a booking.

You can also use Find my nearest for information about your area. Enter your postcode into the 'Search for a location' box and select your address. Details will be displayed in the Waste and recycling section

Things to remember

We always try to collect your bin at a similar time each week but now and again we may have to change our rounds. You can help us by making sure that:

  • you put the right items in the right bin
  • your bin is put out by 6.15am the morning of your collection day
  • your bin is placed next to the kerb with the lid shut (if it is open it can affect the lifting machinery and it might not be emptied)
  • any recycling that will not fit in your blue bin is put in council issued blue sacks; we will collect a maximum of two.

Occasionally, the bin collections can be affected by weather.
